Most people want to learn radio so they can use it in a crisis. A crisis is also the worst time to learn to use a radio.
I teach people to communicate via FRS, GMRS and Ham radio. I get people understanding what radio can do and using it effectively -- in one session. I co-founded the Lefty Radio League, which hosts monthly hands-on workshops in the Bay Area.
I speak at workshops, public events and conferences. I keep folks engaged with the content and leave them feeling competent, empowered and eager to learn more.
I started my radio deep dive in 2024. Before then, I was a software engineer in cybersecurity for ten years, culminating as a staff senior engineer at Palo Alto Netowrks. I spent the ten years before that teaching English to adults in Oakland; I wrote How to Teach Adults (Jossey‑Bass).
